DEC VMS to Open Systems

The main features of our VMS to Open Systems conversion service are...

CONVERSION NOT EMULATION: We provide a true conversion - not a VMS emulation on Open Systems. The converted system is no longer a VMS system, it has been fully converted to a true Open System running in a true native Open Systems environment.

PROGRAMS: The VMS COBOL programs are converted to Fujitsu or Micro Focus COBOL programs. The original program structure and logic is fully maintained.

SCREENS: The FMS FORMS, DEC FORMS, or proprietary screen handlers are converted to WINFORMS, WEBFORMS, Java Server Pages, or COBOL screen section screens.

GUI or Character Screens: COBOL screen section screens can only be presented as character screens. WINFORM, WEBFORM or JSP screens can be presented to the user as character screens exactly like the original VMS screens or they can be converted to GUI presentations.

DCL(Digital Command Language): The DCL job files are converted to script files such as Windows .bat, UNIX shell, or Perl script files.

LEXICAL and system functions: The modern COBOL�s provide many features that were performed by function calls is the VMS COBOL and for the simpler functions the function call is removed and the replaced by inline COBOL statements,. The more complex functions remain as function calls and Unicon provides COBOL programs that provide the same functionality as provided by the original VMS functions.

DATA FILES: RMS indexed data files are converted to ISAM indexed data files. DBMS and RDBMS databases care converted to a customer�s chosen Open Systems RDBMS (ORACLE, SQL Server, UDB, etc).

INDEX SEQUENTIAL TO RDBMS: We can also convert RMS files to RDBMS tables, including converting the program file access logic to embedded SQL. This conversion to a RDBMS can be performed at the same time as the VMS to Open Systems conversion or it can be performed at a later time.

PROGRAM MAINTAINABILITY: The original program structure and logic is fully maintained in the converted programs. There is no loss in program maintainability.

CUSTOMERS CHOICE: The programming language, script language, screen presentation, database, etc that will be used to create the converted system are purely the customer�s choice.
